The new device, in which city guards in Katowice were equipped, is personal cameras that will allow them to register their work in the field. From that week, the city guard has 30 devices with a total value of approx. 90,000. Each camera has a battery that can work for 8 hours. Another important feature is the function that captures the image just before the camera is started, which can be useful in sudden interventions.
This technical solution is known not only in the USA but also in Warsaw. Now it will also go to Katowice. — US police use the personal cameras. Among Polish cities, this solution for city guards also successfully implemented Warsaw. These small devices, on the one hand, will improve safety and allow more efficient operation in crisis situations, and on the other hand, the intervention of guards will be more transparent. The safety of our residents is one of our priority tasks and that is why we are undertaking many activities in this area — emphasizes the president of Katowice Marci Krupp and reminds that in the autumn of 2016, in Katowice, the intelligent monitoring system was opened at a cost of nearly PLN 14 million, which was expanded from 194 to 215 cameras and at the beginning of next year, 32 more cameras will arrive in the system.
The city guards conducting interventions were obliged to turn on the cameras before intervening. — It will give you the opportunity to recreate specific activities, which can be helpful to both residents and help the guards. Such a recording can be used as evidence in the case — emphasizes Pawed Selig, commander of the city guard in Katowice. — experience from the US shows that the cameras on the uniforms are preventive — by recording the intervention. Both the police officers and the residents are aware of the consequences of their behavior — adds the commandant. In addition to cameras, the new city guard monitoring system has software and docking stations that act as chargers and enable you to rip material on the disc, where the recordings will be stored for 30 days. In the future, if the system works, it will be possible to synchronize its work with urban monitoring.
Cameras are not the only novelty in the city guard in Katowice, which is currently also testing new uniforms which made of reflective fabrics. — The new uniform does not restrict movement and is more visible. If the tests are successful, the new uniforms, such as reflective clothing will be worn by all officers patrolling Katowice — promises the commander Pawed Selig. Currently, city guards during patrols are dressed in traditional uniforms and reflective jackets and came (black) uniforms, which do not provide optimal work comfort. Therefore, it was necessary to develop a uniform, practical and increasing safety and comfort of use of the outfit. From the first reports of users of uniforms prototypes, it appears that the new uniform is much more practical than the previous one. The final decisions regarding changing the uniforms of the municipal guard will be taken after the tests are finished this year.
